Applying to the MSW Program – 2026

Thank you for your interest in the MSW programs at the University of Arkansas. These instructions have changed for 2026. Please read ALL instructions carefully.

Application Process

You must complete two separate applications:

  1. School of Social Work (via SocialWorkCAS)

SocialWorkCAS

- Create an account, log in, and submit the application.
- Application fee: $45

  1. University of Arkansas Graduate School

 University of Arkansas Graduate School

- Create an account, log in, and submit the application.
- Application fee: $60

Start Dates 

We have one start date each year for each program.
- Advanced Standing Students → Select Summer 2026 on grad school application
- Traditional (2- or 3-year) Students → Select Fall 2026 on grad school application

Both applications are required. Timely submission of the SocialWorkCAS application and fee payment are especially critical, as completing this process allows the admissions committee to review your materials. Applications are reviewed after the deadline so just make sure to submit the application and payment by the appropriate deadline.

Deadlines (all applications due at 11:59 p.m.)

Advanced Standing (On Campus & Online): January 20, 2026.

  • Eligibility: BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited university (see other admissions pages for other eligibility requirements)
  • You may choose on-campus or online as your first choice and indicate a second choice.

Traditional Two-Year & Extended Programs (On Campus Only): February 16, 2026

  • Eligibility: a completed bachelor degree other than Social Work (see other admissions pages for other eligibility requirements)
  • You may choose the two year or three-year option with one being your first and one being your second choice.

1.     Application Materials for SocialWorkCAS

Submit the following through SocialWorkCAS:

  • Completed application (answer all required questions, attach all documents). In the experiences section of the application, include all work, volunteer, and internship experience, not just social work-related experience).
  • Three professional references.   Enter referee names and emails in CAS application. Appropriate referees are professors, field or internship  instructors or supervisors, supervisors from paid employment or from volunteer positions. If you have questions about appropriate references, please ask.  Do not use personal references.
  • CAS will send each referee a request to complete provided form + submit a written letter.  
  • Unofficial transcripts from the college/university where you graduated or will graduate. International students must submit an official academic credential evaluation.
  • Reference documents for the personal statement and case study.
    • Optional: Graduate Assistantship materials (see below)

Graduate Assistantship (Optional)

To apply for a Graduate Assistantship with the School of Social Work, attach the following to the CAS application:

- GA Application

- Cover letter
- Resume (same as above)

2.     Application Materials (Graduate School)

When applying to the Graduate School, you will:

  • Answer the application questions online.
  • Upload an official transcript.
    If you have not yet graduated, upload your most current transcript.   Once available, you must provide a transcript that shows your graduation date.

Advanced Standing Students – Degrees Older Than 6 Years

Applicants who earned a BSW more than six years prior to application may petition for an exception. You must provide:

  • Documentation of significant post-bachelor’s social work employment, and
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education.
